The Owl project The Owl project The Owl project

The OWL project is designed by Groundwork Wakefield and aims to engage young pepole in a short forestry skills programme in a rural woodland location in Wakefield.

Four young people from the Activity Agreement took part in the project and learned many new skills which included, how to use hand tools, carving models and implements out of fallen branches, creating and maintaining habitats for local wildlife and how to care for the environment.

The activities gave the young people the opportunity to work as a group and therefore build on their teamwork and interpersonal skills.

All the young people really enjoyed the course and would recommend this type of activity to other young people. Three of them have already applied to study horticulture and conservation at college.
