Emma originally came onto the Activity Agreement after dropping out of 6th form. She was unsure about what she wanted to do in the future but was interested in sports and fitness. One thing Emma did know was that she wanted to be active, after all the time she had spent sat around doing nothing. We completed an action plan together which involved Emma doing some short sport courses. Since being on the Activity Agreement she has done a number of courses which included;
• 5 Week ‘Aspirations’ course, which looks at what young people want to do in the future.
• 6 Week Gym fitness course – originally it started one day a week but Emma has chosen to do 2 extra days.
• 2 Day outdoor pursuits days, Emma has been twice and really wants to go again.
• Emma is also booked onto a lifesaving qualification course which starts in June and is also starting a boxing class next week.
Even though Emma was doing all of this she still wanted to do more so I organised a gym membership for 3 months which allows Emma to go swimming as well as to the gym whenever she wants.
Before Emma had started the Aspirations course she decided that she wanted to go into the Army as a Communication Systems Operator. Emma applied and completed her fitness test within two weeks of applying. After she had been accepted she attended a week’s course to learn what its like to be in the Army. Emma worked really hard and was awarded with certificates which included being the best cadet on the course; this was a major achievement as she had to complete lots of fitness tests and challenges. I think all the extra gym sessions must have paid off.
Emma is now training extra hard with a fitness instructor who is putting her through her paces ready for starting in the Army in July.
Emma has been a pleasure to work with as she has been so motivated and I wish her good luck in the future.
