Gaining skills for the future 17 year old Gemma heard about the Activity Agreement from her Connexions PA. She wasn’t sure which direction she wanted her career to go in so thought that the Activity Agreement would give her the opportunity to learn new skills, try out different activities to find out what she liked and to prepare her for employment.
While on the Activity Agreement Gemma has successfully completed courses in hair and beauty, employment preparation and job search, effectiveness in the work place, and an introduction to community sports leadership.
Gemma also took part in a 6 week course with Purple Dog training which includes Health and Safety, First Aid, Fire Safety and Control of Substances to Health. Steve Moss the Trainer of the course says “Gemma was shy at first, but she now contributes to the group sessions and answers questions without being prompted. Her confidence has increased and she is a valuable member of the group.”
Gemma has recently discovered that she is pregnant, so her Keyworker Matt has recommended that she also joins a teenage parents support group as part of her Activity Agreement.
The fact that Gemma is a mum to be has not affected her involvement in the Activity Agreement. her programme has been tailored to meet her needs and the flexibility of the Activity Agreement means that she can continue participating on activities and gaining the skills that will benefit her later.
Matt says, “Gemma has been a pleasure to work with, she has enjoyed attending the hands on sessions and feels that the Activity Agreement has put her in good stead to re-apply for college next year. In the meantime I’m sure her participation on the Activity Agreement will aid her should she apply for work once her baby has been born.”
