A step closer to success Ben was referred to the Activity Agreement team in Kirklees by the Youth Offending Team. He expressed a keen interest in working in the construction industry so his Keyworker Nadine arranged for him to attend construction training as part of his Activity Agreement.
The training course gave Ben the opportunity to learn many new skills in a range of construction trades including brick-laying, plastering, tiling and joinery. It also taught him about the demands of working within the construction industry. It was while he was training that Ben realised that he had a talent for plastering. Harriet Haslam, the Project Coordinator for Build, the construction course, commentated that Ben “was the best plasterer that she had seen in a long time.”
Ben has now set his sights on College in September and with a place guaranteed, his dreams of setting up his own business and driving a silver van, are more reachable.
His Keyworker Nadine is very pleased with Ben’s progress. She says; “Ben has come a long way, truly grown as a person, in his skills, abilities, confidence and self esteem. He has loved been on the Activity Agreement, and Build which has helped him discover a talent he has in plastering, which he truly loves. He is an inspiration to other young people that may need a little helping hand in finding direction and happiness in their life.
Well done Ben!”
