Advise and support lead to training and a job I have worked with Jenny over a 6 week period.
Jenny had left school and started a job which was too far away from her home. It took her 4 hours a day in travelling and she found this very tiring. Jenny decided that this wasn’t right for her and decided to leave the job and since then hadn’t done anything.
She went to the Connexions Centre and was supported by a Personal Advisor who made Jenny aware of the Activity Agreement.
I met with Jenny and discussed the Activity Agreement and how it could support her. Jenny and I worked to build a programme and action plan that could support her into education, employment or training. Jenny’s main aims were to gain employment or training and gain confidence and self esteem.
She had attended several interviews for apprenticeships. Companies had contacted her and said that she was always a strong candidate but she hadn’t managed to gain a placement. This was beginning to knock Jenny’s confidence and I therefore worked hard to support her with her applications and helped her to improve her interview skills.
Following this Jenny and I looked at different training providers and applied for many job vacancies. She worked hard and visited the Connexions Centre nearly every day to see if they had any new vacancies. We looked at different training providers and arranged for her to go and look around a few. She attended an interview at GP Training and was offered a place.
Jenny is now doing a Business and Admin course one day a week and has a placement at an Estate Agents where she works four days a week, 10am till 5.30pm. Her role includes dealing with customers, answering the phone, admin tasks and PA work.
Jenny is very happy in her new role. She said “I would advise other young people to get involved in the Activity Agreement because it helps to make you realise your full potential. The Activity Agreement supported me financially which enabled me to get out and look for placements due to me having a bus pass. It also made me realise that I needed to look at training before getting a job so that I had the right experience and qualifications to support me.”
