On course for a Caring Career Since leaving school with only a few GCSEs Nikesha had concentrated on caring for her baby boy. Now aged 17 she knew she was ready to focus on something positive for her future, but wasn’t sure which direction to go in or what her options were, until she heard about the Activity Agreement.
During her first meeting with Rachel, a Leeds Keyworker, Nikesha expressed an interest in a career in health and beauty. Rachel suggested a beauty therapy course which would lead to an NCFE Level 2 qualification. Rachel also arranged for child care and the reimbursement of travel costs to and from nursery through Care to Learn, so that Nikesha could attend the course without worrying about childcare for her little boy.
Rachel continued supporting Nikesha throughout her time on the Activity Agreement. With Rachel’s help she applied to college to study Health and Social Care at NVQ Level 2. Rachel is happy to announce that Nikesha’s application was successful and she started the course in September.
Rachel says “I am really pleased with the progress that Nikesha has made. When I first met her she lacked confidence but now she is determined and focused.”
Since participating in the Activity Agreement and attending college Nikesha now has ambitions to put her new skills to good use and become a dental nurse. Motivated by providing her son with a better future, she is sure to succeed.
