Making music in Kirklees It’s fair to say that school hadn’t really worked out for Aaron. He had left school with no qualifications and was feeling disinterested in anything to do with planning for his future. His Connexions PA referred him to the Activity Agreement in the hope that we could help.
Aaron was so disinterested that he didn’t turn up for his first meeting with his Keyworker. The next meeting was arranged so that Aaron’s mum could be present. His mum wanted him to focus on developing his literacy and numeracy skills but Aaron didn’t feel that he could commit to doing this.
During a further meeting with Khizar, his Keyworker from the Kirklees team, Aaron expressed an interest in music. Khizar suggested a taster course where Aaron could experience short sessions in music production, DJing, music technology, video, multimedia/website production, radio production and broadcasting, to determine which area he would like to focus on.
Aaron really enjoyed the taster session and it sparked his enthusiasm to continue further. Aaron is now in the middle of a 12 week course in Music at the end of which he will have achieved an NVQ Level 1. Khizar also arranged for part of the course to focus on improving Aaron’s literacy and numeracy skills which is keeping mum happy!
Aaron is making excellent progress. He is keen to attend the course each week and is always on time. Khizar is pleased that Aaron has found something which he is enthusiastic about and will continue to support him throughout the course.
