Lucy now on track.. School didn’t work out too well for Lucy. She had passed her GCSE exams but didn’t achieve the grades that she knew she was capable of. Thinking that there weren’t many options available to her Lucy went on to study fine art at Thomas Danby College in Leeds but ended up dropping out. Her career ambitions were to go into child care but due to her exam results she didn’t think that was an option.
Coming from a big family and with mum being a nursery nurse, Lucy wanted to follow in mum’s footsteps and have a career in child care.
Lucy’s mum persuaded her to attend the Careers on Show event at the Royal Armouries. It was here that she met Gary Jeffers, a Keyworker from the Leeds team at the Activity Agreement stand.
Through discussions with Gary, Lucy discovered that by signing up to the Activity Agreement her dream of working in child care could be realised.
Two months later, Lucy is well on her way to resitting her Maths and English GCSEs which will enable her to do a BTEC in Child Care at college.
Gary is really pleased with Lucy’s progress and her determination to succeed. “She is really motivated and is doing very well”.
And what does Lucy think of the Activity Agreement? “It’s really good. The Keyworker support has helped me make the right choices, and the £30 a week is great!”
